You Gotta See the Show!

I went to "Aida" on Saturday night. Meg did GREAT! Her solo was perfect and she looked the part with her hair in little braids. Her best friend, Samantha, is Aida and, holy cow, can she sing! I thoroughly enjoyed watching them perform. As usual, the guys could use a few more rehearsals, but all in all the show was wonderful. "Aida" is a love story sort of on the same lines as Romeo and Juliet. You get caught up in the Egyptian sands and the waters of the Nile.

Meg is in the play "Aida" at the Terrace Plaza Playhouse. Opening night is Friday, Sept 26. It will run for almost two months every Monday, Friday and Saturday night. For tickets call 801-393-0070. Let me know when you would like to go up and I will see if I can go too!

Halloween Party

Hey, I was just wondering who was in charge of the Halloween party this year? I have a party planned for the night of Halloween already. I have no other plans for October except birthdays. I'm thinking of doing Sam and Ian on October 13th, a Monday; and Me and William on Monday the 27th.

I would like to be in charge of the drink for Halloween. I found something I want to do for it.

What was I thinking?

So, for the last week I have been tearing out each room and moving furniture, clothes, stuff and more stuff. Munga & Mannie have shared a room for the last few years and they are really getting on my nerves. I tore up my office and put it in the laundry room, moved Mannie back into her little room (my office) and put my scrapbook, sewing and Primary papers in Munga's big room. We are also collecting things for Zions Market. More on that in a minute.

There are piles of books, pictures, school papers and nail polishes in the floors, on the dressers, and down the hall. Jeff and I moved quite a bit before we moved here (9 years ago) and since we are nomads, we don't truly feel comfortable unless we move furniture up and down the stairs at least twice a year.

This summer Buddy's room was gutted so I could paint. My best friend Sherrie came to help and we finished in 2 days. It looks great but I think Buddy forgot that he already moved around this year. He wanted to switch little rooms with Mannie and I had to remind him that we just got his lighthouses put back up. And his room is two shades of blue. Mannie likes pink.

The birds couldn't be left out either. They went back into the front room to be "watchbirds" and squawk their little heads off whenever someone pulls up to the house.

One day we will be back in order just in time to get out the Christmas decorations...

Zions Market is what our 5 family calls "Free-I" as opposed to "D-I". (Deseret Industries, i.e. a second hand store) Every year our stake hosts this great event at the stake center. We take our nicely used clothes, books, etc over on a Friday night and sort them into their designated classrooms at the church. Then on Saturday morning we can go back and check out what everyone else brought. It's the greatest yard sale in the world!

Last year before we went, I said, "I am looking for a lamp, some zuchinni (no lie), and sprinkler heads." Guess what I found at Zions Market? Yup. The lamp is in the front room, zuchinni got made into bread and the sprinkler heads have been run over by the lawn mower at least 3 times this summer. (they are doing a great job keeping the grass wet and growing, I can't help it if I can't see them in the long grass!)

More moving and vacuuming tomorrow. Need to find the heating pad for my back and some Ibuprofen...

Ok, so here's the scoop. Maddie is the new Miss Hannigan! Hunter is Lt. Ward (the policeman that chases Annie and Sandy). Ky is the radio show announcer ("You're never fully dressed without a smile"); Anna is Pepper, the mean orphan; Kinley is Sandy, the dog; Laurel is "the man in the window" and will probably be one of the city folk as well. Good job everyone!

Read any good books lately?

We love to read books at our house. This year I decided to read books to Hunter. We started with "I am David" formerly titled "North to Freedom" by Anne Holm. We sat together on the mini sofa and had nice little together times. He's not my snuggly little boy any more and it was great to reconnect with him like this. When we finished the book, I wrote him a note in the front cover so he might remember when we shared this story together. We are now reading "Summer of the Monkeys" by Wilson Rawls. Hunter read some to me when I was sick. He giggled so much though we had to re-read some of it! Maddie wandered in to listen a time or two and Jeff would pretend to be doing other things but would make comments once in a while! I think my next book choice will be "The Great Brain" series by John D. Fitzgerald. Last year when we drove to Yellowstone we read "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe" by C.S. Lewis. Do you have any other suggestions for us? Enjoy every moment you have with loved ones. I'm just sayin.

Trying to buy a house.

So Karen and I are thinking about buying a Co-op/Apartment/3 Family building here in Brooklyn. We could use about $30,000 for a down payment if anybody is interested in having a good investment........... I'm just saying...is all

My Only Red Head...

and look what she has done! She has a lead role in "Aida" as a Nubian Servant Girl to the princess, Aida. Since Nubians do not have natural red hair, Meg has had to make hers quite dark. It sure is different, but we are getting used to it. I may even make it a bit darker.

Maddie and Hunter auditioned for "Annie". Cast lists will be posted tomorrow afternoon.

We will be back and forth up town and down town to rehearsals and performances throughout the next few months. Both shows run at the same time! I need to find some time to make some freezer meals. Those sure do come in handy when no one is home to cook. Maybe more on that later...

So when you think you know what you are doing and then you screw it up so bad that you have to delete the whole thing, that's when you know...you just wasted a whole bunch of time doing nothin!

How about if I read the directions and actually learn something as I do this blog! That's not a new idea, I know, but I need to try it sometime!
